In order to address the high demands of GCSE courses, we operate curriculum pathways for our GCSE subjects. Students will be guided towards one of three pathways, based on a variety of factors including Key Stage 2 scaled scores.
Options are chosen in year 8 to begin in year 9. Students will be given numerous opportunities to discuss their options choices with staff, including Parents’ Evening and individual, personalised Options Interviews with senior members of staff.
The pathways students take will be determined by a number of factors, including Key Stage 2 standardised scores, their performance in years 7 and 8, and their ability in the subjects they would like to choose. The final decision will be made once students have had their options interviews.
Students will study French, a Humanities subject (French, Geography or History) and two other subjects of their choice.
Students will study at least one EBacc subject (French, Geography or History) and two other subjects of their choice.
For a small number of our students, an alternative Pathway 3 is proposed. Students will undertake a more vocational route with additional literacy and exam skills built into their curriculum. These students will be identified based on their Key Stage 2 standardised scores and their performance in years 7 and 8.
