Three times per year, parents/carers will receive a Progress Report. This is a record of their child’s academic achievements, progress in each subject and attitude to learning grades.
All interventions whether before, during or after academy hours are focused on improving student outcomes. These can range from core subjects such as English, maths and science, to option subjects. Letters are sent to students to invite them to some academic interventions (masterclasses), while other interventions allow students to just turn up.
Academic interventions run throughout the week and are available for all year groups. Days can change due to different targeted student groups, but students will be made aware of changes.
Some students are selected to complete academic reports and participate in mentoring, with the aim to improve a specific skill or outcome. All students selected are put on a monitoring report with specific targets that are set, discussed and evaluated.
In addition to Progress Reports and Academic Interventions, Parents’/Carers’ Evenings are arranged throughout the year. Each year group will have at least one Parents’/Carers’ Evening per year. Students in Year 9 who are preparing to take their ‘options’ for GCSE and other Key Stage 4 subjects will have a Parents’/Carers’ Evening held in February.
Parents’/Carers’ Evenings and other selected events are frequently attended by local colleges and establishments of tertiary education. It is common to see representatives of Palmer’s College, South Essex College and the Thurrock Learning Campus in attendance at these events.
These sessions are led by senior staff and offer support to parents/carers with the focus on how to support their children. These sessions are practical and interactive. Parents/carers are introduced to misconception about revision technniques, and motivational tools to aid academic progress.
The Ockendon Academy is happy to discuss progress of its students with parents at any time during the course of the year. Parents should contact the form tutor on 01708 851661 to make an appointment.
