Physical Education
The Physical Education Department plays a prominent part in the school’s Personal Learning Programme.
The aims of the department are to:
- Introduce students to as wide a range of sporting opportunities and skills as possible;
- Introduce students to a variety of aesthetic experiences via the medium of Dance and Gymnastics;
- Foster positive attitudes towards social interaction between gender groups and across traditional barriers;
- Enable students to plan and prepare their own contribution towards individual and team sports and activities;
- Encourage evaluation of their own performance and the performance of others;
- Encourage students to fulfill their potential and become independently active.
Inter-form tournaments are organised throughout the year in a variety of sports. The school aspires to excellence in all competitive sports. The Ockendon Academy has become the most successful at cricket and basketball in Thurrock.
Competitive teams are organised in:
Football, Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Volleyball, Hockey, Athletics, Cross-Country, Rounders and Water Polo.
All teams compete at a variety of levels, including friendly, Borough and County.
Leisure activities include: Badminton, Squash, Racketball, Trampolining, Weight Training, Swimming, Aerobics, a variety of dance clubs, Gymnastics, Softball, Climbing, Canoeing and Sailing.
